For those of you who already know the news about our very popular vet, Dougie Fountain, we would like to give you all an update.
There has been so much rumour & innuendo - such is the nature of the horse world - that as we are in regular contact with Douglas Snr (his dad) we felt we should update all his loyal clients about how he is & what exactly happened.
On the 19th of October, Dougie was returning on a flight from the UK. Just prior to touching down at Dubai, he collapsed & had to be resuscitated. Dougie was very fortunate to have on board a doctor, an intensive care nurse & even a nurse sitting right next to him, so he received immediate attention.
He spent 2 weeks in a Dubai hospital, the first week in intensive care. His family then had him transferred to a hospital in Scotland. He has undergone extensive testing since being back in Scotland.
Although doctors are unsure of the exact cause of his collapse, it seems most likely to be related to his heart & so he is about to undergo an operation to fit an internal defib device to safeguard him against any further episodes.
We are told he is doing well & back to his old cheeky self. He continues to improve, although frustrated by some temporary short-term memory lapses. He is therefore making a remarkable recovery. We all miss him & look forward to him returning to work in the next few months.
A wonderful benefit night was held at Valentino’s Restaurant on Monday, the 10th of October. It was a great night and we have been asked by Dougie and his family to thank everyone for their overwhelming love & support. They are truly touched & greatly appreciative of everyone’s generosity.
It was a great night & all recorded on both video & photos so he can appreciate the night as well. We are sure that when he reflects on the night, he will be very humbled & grateful to all those involved.
We will keep you all posted as to his progress.

Dougie had his surgery on Tuesday 18th of
October. The doctors are very happy with his progress & he has now been
discharged into the care of his parents. He will now continue to be monitored
until it is confirmed he has fully recovered.
Should you wish to send a get well message, just
contact the clinic & we can forward a fax or give an address for correspondence.
We will keep you posted!

News from the Bonnie Isles is that Dougie is still making good progress.
He
is getting more stamina and get up & go daily. He has been catching up with his
colleagues in other Equine Practices to keep his hand in.
Good
news for us is that he is coming back to Australia sometime this winter and
should be rearing to go by the stud season!

We
are happy to inform people that Doug has returned to Australia and is a picture
of health. He is continuing his recovery in a low key fashion, and we are hoping
to have him back at work in the next month or two.
20th July, 2006
Doug
is back on board at HEVC. He is easing himself back into work over the next
couple of months, so he can fully recuperate before the stud season gets into
full swing.
